Facebook is increasing rapidly today that even schoolchildren today are starting to create their own account.
But with the ongoing spams and identity hacks, one might sometimes wonder, is Facebook safe?
The answer to that, is Yes!
Although Facebook has a lousy customer service (Understandable because they have to cater to billions of people complaining every day), they do on the other hand care about their well-being and the well-being of the users.
Because of that, they constantly update their features to mask their efforts to improve security so that we won’t be worrying much.
If you’ve noticed, you don’t have to worry about your email privacy as well because if you head over to your Facebook profile, you’ll see that Facebook has already created a Facebook email for you to protect your privacy.
Pretty cool huh?
How does Facebook maintains security?
If you are worrying too much about Facebook, try to understand that the worst case scenario for you will only be the loss of a free account.
Facebook on the other hand, will have a much higher risk if their security is breached because their whole income depends on how well they control Facebook so because of that, they take into account several security features to help make their environment safe.
Here are some of Facebook’s main efforts to boost security:
1) Secure Socket Layer (SSL)
Don’t worry, you don’t have to understand this unless you work for Facebook.
SSL is a very complicated type of security which encrypts or protects your data while on Facebook including anything you enter when logged into the website, even to the smallest of details like your conversations with friends on Facebook.
2) The Facebook server
Yes, even the server has a protection system.
If you don’t know what a server is, it’s simply the place where Facebook saves and store all your data in a cloud storage.
To prevent hackers from getting in and stealing your data, Facebook’s server has an anti-intrusion system in place to employ anti-virus to keep their system safe.
So really, just stop worrying about Facebook’s safety already 😉
What you can do to increase your account security?
Of course you cannot just leave everything to Facebook to handle, sometimes you need to take matters into your own hands.
Here are some steps you can take to further secure your account:
1) Do NOT share your location when your currently there
Stalkers and criminals will be looking for you location so that one day they might pounce on you or steal your stuff.
If you’re a girl and you’re pretty hot, it is more the reason to not share your location because you don’t want weird stalkers to be all over you, do you?
It is okay to share the places that you visit on Facebook, but do it after you visited the place so you get less risk of stalking.
2) Complicated password
Facebook’s password system is very encrypted from the inside making it very safe but to make it more secure, you need to play your role too by creating complicated chains of letters and numbers.
Thieves are becoming cleverer today as they can use machines to quickly decode simple passwords such as “godzillababy” or “applecrumble”.
Believe it or not, most people use easy passwords like the ones I mentioned above.
So please do make it more secure by putting numbers and letters like “my$3000keyboard” or “RihannaLooksSoFine1234” because this way, nobody can hack into your account.
3) Beware of phishing scams
Phishing scams are those random scams you often get on your email that are sent by an anonymous persons asking for your Facebook username, password, or any personal information.
Delete Immediately!
Facebook never asks for these information which means that the email was sent by a hacker which will take over your account if you do so please beware and click on “report phishing” if you have that button on your email (like Hotmail).
Conclusion
As a multi billionaire company, Facebook takes in a lot of measures to keep itself safe from hackers and abusers because their reputation in on the line.
But, the rule of thumb in life is not to depend on people so therefore we also need to take action on keeping our account safe from our side.

I’ve never had problems with my facebook security so I’ve really taken this all for granted. It’s nice to know not only that fb is safe, but exactly how much they are doing to protect you. thanks for enlightening us with your valuable knowledge Riaz! 🙂
no problem at all Tommy, Facebook sure does have a great security system. They have a lot more at stake if anything goes wrong so you can be sure that their security is one of the best in the world. The only risk would be how much information on yourself are you willing to show people? Thanks for dropping by Tommy, really appreciate that 🙂
Hi Riaz
Thank You for these great Facebook tips and will be very useful. “Touch wood”, I’ve never had any problems when it comes to my Facebook account but I do have friends who have had accounts hacked in to before. I reckon it must be down to weak passwords, who knows.
Cheers for the content, Neil
Hey Neil, would either be due to weak password or phishing techniques that he fell for.
I would suggest that he don’t give his details to anyone or strengthen his passwords so that criminals would have a very hard time hacking.
Thanks for dropping by!
